Once a script is chosen by the Board of Directors, one or two members of the board assume the role of producers for that project. The producers will open up applications for crew positions, looking to build a team of both experienced filmmakers and novices - passing on knowledge is one of the most important goals of PVP.
Once crew members are established, the team will begin meeting to dissect the script. In this phase, the director works to communicate their creative vision with everyone involved. Costumes and sets are designed, locations are scouted and secured, story boards may be drafted, and auditions are held for members of the cast.
It's time to bring out the camera. During these few busy weeks, the screenplay is filmed, typically out of order, moving based on the preparation done in pre-production. This is when the cinematographer, sound recordists, actors, production assistants, etc. get to shine. Days on set are long and demanding but fun and rewarding. There will always be a wrap party :)
Once all the footage has been shot, it is turned over to the editor to cut together. As soon as picture is locked, the sound designer, colorist, and composer can begin work, placing the finishing touches on that semester's film. Once complete, the film is screened for an audience and we begin prep on the next one.
